Teach Soap

Ok so this is just a theroy I have made up from reading all the wonderful information on this site...

I have been making Melt & Pour for a few years but I dont like the soap I make, it is way too drying on my skin. Apparently I am the only one who thinks so as none of my family/friends/clients have this issue. But after reading all the great info on here I understand that coconut oil can be too drying for some people and my M&P base (which is a good quality base) is mostly made with Coconut Oil so Im thinking thats my problem!

So, what is a good substitute for coconut oil? or should I just try it in smaller quantities? Just about every recepie i have seen so far has coconut in it.

Any suggestions are welcomed, thanks

Babasu is a good sub for coconut.

hmm never even heard of that, i'll have to look it up. Not sure my suppliers have it as i would have seen it whilst I was browsing. Thank you for the suggestion

For cold process soaps, just as long as I don't go above 20% with the coconut and superfat at least 7% I'm ok.

Palm kernel oil is chemically very similar to coconut oil and some people find it less drying than coconut. It's cheaper than babassu too!

I love babassu, but not the cost. I save it for lip balm and other leave on products.

Bec, I've yet to find Babasu in Australia. I've wanted to try it, but from my searches it's either not available, or very well hidden.

You can pick up Palm kernel oil from Aussie Soap Supplies, however they can not guarantee is from a sustainable source, so I'm hesitant to use it unless I know the Orangutans are safe.

ok so probably a silly Q, but is palm oil and palm oil kernel different things? same plant though im guessing

Yeah they're slightly different.

Palm oil is from the fruit , whereas palm kernel oil is from the seed of the fruit.
