I'm wondering if there's a general usage guideline for exfoliants? I used blue pumice in a soap and while it came out quite pretty with the blue pumice showing through, wow! It's quite scrubby! Nice for hands and tootsies, though! I used 1 oz of Blue pumice in 4 lbs of soap. I made another loaf using 1 oz crushed walnut shell in 5 lbs of soap. I just unmolded it a few days ago and have not even tried it. I love an exfoliant but just not sure how much to use for a bathing bar.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought a good rule of thumb was one tablespoon per pound of oils. That may just be for "bigger" exfoliants like shredded loofah. I'm not sure if things like walnuts would require less...

I'm not much help.

I agree about the rule of thumb as 1 TBS. per lb. of soap. Any more than that and it might be better for exfoliation of feet.

Of course it is a matter of personal preference, but i generally try the 1 Tbs ppo first, then go up or down from there depending on what I feel.

I've been asked this question, so I'm bumping up this post.
