Hi All,
Sorry for this long post but today I made my first 100% coconut oil soap and it was a disaster.
The original recipe called for 25% superfat with 33 oz coconut oil, 4.8 ounces of lye, 9.6 ounces of water and 1.5 oz of essential blend [.5 ounce cedarwood, .4 ounce rosemary, .3 ounce lavender, .3 ounce black pepper]I wanted to double the recipe and after running it through the soapcalc.net calculator got the following:
66 oz coconut oil
11.47 ounces of lye
21.78 ounces of water
12.38 oz of essential blend (I added in only half of this)
The eo blend I used was
Patchouli essential oil = 10 parts (50% of total blend)
Lemon essential oil = 4 parts (20% of total blend)
Nutmeg essential oil = 3 parts (15% of total blend)
Black pepper essential oil = 3 parts (15% of total blend)
Now after mixing n the lye and then later the eo blend, the soap super traced and got very very hot.
The number of disasters that happened are as follows:
1. The soap thickened up very fast.
2. It resulted in a volcano immediately on pouring into the mould.
3. I could barely get all into the mould when the volcano happened and at the same time it literally hardened up in the mixing container itself. Within seconds I had a hardened lump of soap in my mixing bowl and the mold.
This is how it looks like now

Jokes apart,
Please tell me where I went wrong and how can (if can) this batch be reused?
Thanks in advance
