hope that's spelt right?

any way my hubby suffers from psoriasis (from his arthritis) and my dad also has pretty bad psoriasis on his arms and legs. I want to make them some soap, and while I was researching it seems that neem oil is good for skin conditions. Does anyone have a suggestion of a soap recipe I can make using this oil, or of any other good oils to use?

In the past when I was making m&p I was using a pre-made jojoba oil base that hubby loved but that's a little bit too expensive to buy at the moment.

Thanks! Just waiting on my oils to arrive, I hate waiting!

I've been successful with this blend for psoriasis and rosacea as several of my siblings suffer from either and/or both. I make it in a small batch

Coconut oil 220 grams
Palm 157 grams
Olive Oil 327 grams
Cocoa Butter 22 grams

Use liquid aloe instead of water at 280 grams and 104 grams of lye

Tea Tree oil has excellent antibacterial properties. I use the essential oil (not fragrance oils) with about 20 cc's per batch.

Mix at 110 degrees. Be quick because this will trace in about 20 seconds.

I've been making this blend for about the past 12 years and make it only for family/friends. It works very well.

Oh......and hello everyone.

For the above recipe, I would do a higher superfat aka lye discount. 102 grams of lye for a 7% superfat.

That's what I eventually went to with a 7.2% superfat ratio and using 276 grams of liquid aloe.

My sisters reported that it was less effective. This was about a month after I gave them the higher superfatted bars and they didn't know that I altered the recipe.

Change it if you like. I'm just stating what worked well with my siblings.

Pine tar soap is supposed to be good for psoriasis. My son and I both suffer from eczema so I thought what the heck and decided I would try making a pine tar soap a couple yrs ago. I can't find the recipe online anymore, but I still have it in my recipe book, I think it was 9% pine tar. That stuff smelled up my house so bad I had to put the soap outside on the porch to cure. Even after cure it was so strong I couldn't stand the smell so I sealed it in a cardboard box and stuck it on a shelf. Now over a year later, I found it and the smell isn't so strong anymore, so I used it. It's a great soap now, but can't speak to it's effects on skin problems as I'm not currently having issues. If you try it maybe try a smaller percentage of pine tar.

Never seen pine tar before in my travels, but will look into it. I know, now that you mention it, hubby has a cream he uses that has some sort of tar in it. Thanks

I've made it before but never thought to use it for psoriasis. I picked mine up at an Ace Hardware store in the paint section. Comes in a 1 qt container for about 9 bucks. I added about 8% to my fats as they were heating and it blended right in. Now you have me thinking of adding it to the tea tree blend to see if it works better.

Have tried dead sea mud before for the same thing. Had little to no effect but seemed to work well on my niece who suffers from body acne. Good luck.

And yes, I'm a newbie to the forum but have been making soap for about 25 years since I was a young child with my mother. No stranger to soap but a newcomer here. Pleasure to be part of the forum

Thanks for the welcome! I started in around 1993 with my mother when I was 6. We would make it out of necessity and to give as gifts for the holidays to friends & family. Used the same traditions & methods until learning biochemistry and molecular biology in college. It was then I knew that "mom's way" of soap making needed a bit of em....er....."refinement". Makes me wonder how I survived childhood. Have experimented quite a bit with all aspects of soaping. Try to make some every day. It's a pleasure to be here and thanks again for the nice welcome.

You can get pine tar at places that sell horse stuff. Also Tractor Supply. I like to use lavender EO in my pine tar soap, b/c it slows trace a bit - pine tar soap will seize FAST - and it blends well with the pine tar scent and masks it a bit.

Just a note. Pine tar traces very quickly. So soap with lower temperatures and
Do Not use a stick blender. I just mix all my oils with the pine tar in it and then
just use a whist to mix in the lye solution. . It traces super fast. So have everything
ready and mix by hand.
