Teach Soap

For the first time in 1 1/2 years when I stored the goat milk soap I made in a cardboard box with a towel over it (so it was breathable) I ended up with tiny little bugs climbing on my soap. I am so upset by it!!! How does everyone else store their cold process soap to let it dry for the 4 weeks? Thanks.

I've never had the bug problem - that's weird! Even when I've made real oatmeal, milk and honey soap (no FO, just oatmeal, milk and honey). I store mine in open cardboard boxes for 6 weeks or so, then I close the boxes. I am wondering if the towel kept things too moist?

yes last summer I didn't have that problem that is why I was so shocked when I went to look at my soap after being put up in a closet for a month and I saw little bugs on it. At least I am doing the right thing by storing it in cardboard boxes. I also noticed if I stack the soap on top of each other the part that doesn't have soap on top will turn a different color so I guess you can't stack the soap on top of each other. Have you found that out as well?

For the first 4-6 weeks, I leave mine to dry on a wire rack. I don't move them to shoe boxes until after the cure period.

I store my soaps either on wire racks, or placed on flat cardboard in a 'fallen domino' pattern with just the tips of the tops touching the other soaps and flip them the other way once a week. I've never heard of critters on soap tho..that's a new one on me. Sounds like maybe there wasn't enough air circulation being under the towel, and being a milk soap and being moist may have attracted the tiny terrors.

Good morning, I haven't had that happen yet. I live in Florida, it can be very humid, I store my soap on wire racks standing upright until cured I sit them on parchment paper I have a fan on low to circulate the air then when they are ready I bag them with the top unsealed until ready for market. So far nothing has happened good luck
