Teach Soap

I have a bottle of Palm Kernel Oil and was wondering if it's interchangeable with Palm Oil. It's not the flakes, but looks just like Palm Oil. I've often seen the two of them used in a recipe, but I've not seen Palm Kernel Oil used instead. I ran out of Palm Oil tonight and have to wait until Wednesday for my shipment ... one whole night without making soap; what will I do? Guess I'll catch up with hubby and see what he's been up to That is...if I can't use this Palm Kernel Oil without supplementing Palm Oil.

Palm kernel has a different SAP value then palm. They are not interchangeable.

And, yes, I see that the SAP value is different. I guess I meant to ask, can I achieve the same hardness if added at 15% that I would get with just Palm Oil or should I increase the %. I don't have tallow or any other substitute for Palm Oil in the house. I admit that I'm a bit confused with what I bought because it's in a bottle (like Palm Oil), not in flake form.

Decided to do:

10% Palm Kernel
52% Olive
23% Coconut
8% Cocoa Butter
7% Castor

water discount 33%; 5% super fat

I'm determined to use the palm kernel and never buy it again if this doesn't turn out.

Sorry to bore, but writing this all out helped me move forward

I hope it works out for you. My palm kernel is a soft solid, as the flakes cost more.

Thanks, Irena. That's good to know. I actually checked the label to be sure it was right. My soap looks beautiful and is gelling right now. Can't wait to unmold. I might have to wait a bit, but so far, quite happy. Can't tell you how much it means to have someone on the other end. Silly how something small like a different oil and the lack of the norm can throw you into a quandary. Thanks again, and have a good evening.
