Teach Soap

Greetings.

After months of clamoring from my customers, I'm finally making a lemongrass EO soap. My problem is, that my research warns about the burning effect of lemongrass EO. There is practically no information on the Internet regarding suggested usage rates, although I ran it through the Brambleberry Fragrance Calculator, and I can see that it uses a 3% usage rate. Still, I'm worried about skin sensitivy, and I was wondering if I could use even less lemongrass EO, and still maintain the fragrance.

I would be interested in any and all experiences with lemongrass EO in CP soap. Thanks!

The IFRA I could find, for the Crafter's Choice brand specifically (), lists 6.25% as the max usage for soap, as well as for most other wash-off applications. I imagine you'd be fine at 3%.

Sensitization from Lemongrass EO is mostly from the use of it undiluted. But since you're putting it in soap, it decreases the chances significantly. I'm assuming by "burning" you mean sensitization or irritation and not phototoxicity.

For lemongrass I use 2.5% ppo for a strong scent. It sticks very well at that rate for me.

I always find that lemongrass EO comes out strong and tends to overpower other scents when I blend. I have yet to encounter sensitivity issues with it in soap, but I think you could experiment with using it between 1-2% and still have the scent hold.
