Humidity DEFINITELY affects soap! Even my gelled soaps are too soft to unmold for 3-5 days. Un-gelled soaps take at least 8-15 days. Haven't seen our humidity here drop below 85% in the nearly 2 years I've been here, usually over 90%.

It really helps to use a lye calculator like SoapCalc. It predicts the soap qualities for a given recipe. The cleansing power of your soap may be too high and therefore gives you that squeaky tight feeling. A high cleansing power means more oil stripped from your skin. Since coconut oil has a high cleansing power, many soap makers limit how much they use in their bath soaps but like more of it in laundry soap. Good luck with your soaping adventures!
