I decided to make some 0% SF 100% coconut laundry soap for my family to try. Mixed just fine, maybe a little quick to trace, poured fine. 10 minutes later it is completely gelled, covered in ash, and has a nice over heat crack down the middle. HOLY COW! It is now a hot little soapy brick. I could unmold it and cut it now, after only 10 minutes. Did not expect that! Think I will cut it once it is cool, just in case the middle is all molten still. How long does it generally take to unmold and cut a laundry soap? My last batch was pretty much a "normal" soap batch, nothing like this; guessing the fact that my soaping room is 85* may have helped some!

Yep! I need to cut mine within about two hours. Otherwise it's too hard to cut. Can you elevate the mold and put a fan on it?

I may be able to elevate it, but no fan in there. There WILL be an AC window unit eventually, when we have some more money. Stupid money! Although I did sell my first soap order a couple weeks ago. Not set up as an LLC yet, but I sold it to a friend who was a tester, and he won't use any other soap now!

SO glad I made this post! I'd have left it until the morning to cut. No way in heck my soap cutter was going through it even now! Glad I have sharp knives in the workshop! 4 nice sized stain sticks and 7 bars to shred. NOT looking forward to the shredding!

Also, my curiosity got the best of me so I had to zap test to see what kind of punch a 0% SF throws. No zap. But boy does it make my skin dry when I washed the residue off. Hope my family likes this lil freebie gift <3 :D

Thanks Irena!!

I'm glad you posted it too as I was going to try a batch next week. Yikes! Let us know how it turns out.

Let me second that - this is very interesting. I made 100% coconut oil bar soaps as a learning experience. We have been using them to wash our dishes, and we are amazed at the cleaning properties - better than dish soap. Hmmm...laundry soap - never even considered it but now.... 8)

I just made a 100% lard 0% superfat for the same purpose and it was very hard to cut also. I was going to wait a couple weeks to shred, but maybe should do it sooner.

I've been scouting out for food processors at the thrift shops for soap shredding, it's so tedious!

I make 50% lard 50% Coconut laundry bars and after the first time trying to get them cut, I do them in BB's 12 bar silicone mold. I also find them much easier to shred when they are fresh. 8)

Good idea, Linda! I didn't think of that but I have BB's silicone bar molds too. I have a market tonight, but I want to make soap tomorrow. OK, I confess I'm about to go make a quick batch of soap before packing for the market!
