Making 3-D Rock Soap
Materials
top and bottom Rock Mold
fragrance or essential oil
melt and pour base
optional: colorant
Pyrex dish
metal spoon
optional: spritzer with alcohol
Melt your soap in the microwave or over a double boiler.
Once your soap is melted, gently tap in your mica and add your fragrance oil.
Pour one side of the rock mold. I normally pour the top portion of the rock mold because it seems to fit better on the base. Spritz with alcohol to get rid of any little bubbles that form in the pouring process.
You will have to color batch the top and the bottom so make sure to keep good notes of the mica you used, or save the unused melt and pour to re-melt when it is time to fit the two pieces together. Allow the poured portion of the rock mold to harden fully. This may take up to 4 hours so be patient. Putting the soap in the fridge or freezer encourages condensation (glycerin dew or sweat) to form on the bars and is not recommended.
Once the top rock soap is hardened, melt the melt and pour again, add your mica and fragrance oil. Pour the bottom portion of the rock mold. Pour the rocks as fully as you can. Spritz with alcohol to get rid of any stray bubbles that form during the pouring process.
Gently slide the top rock soap on top of the (wet and overflowing) bottom rock mold. Take care to slide it over easily or the soap will 'fall' into the bottom portion of the mold. You will get your fingers soapy during this process so be prepared for that.
Repeat this process with the other two rocks. Wait 2 to 4 hours before popping out.
Use a knife to shave off any seams or edges. Wrap and you're done!
The finished product - a beautiful, 3-D "rock" soap!
