Hi All,

II would really like to try cp to make hand rolled soap balls from cp. Is this just the same recipe as you would normally use up or do you rebatch?

Here in Australia it is very popular to see handrolled cp soap balls with gorgeous scents and rolled in botannicals or poppy seeds through the ball. I would love to try it and see if I can make them.

Thanks so much for helping me with this.
Jo

Probably the easiest way to make CP soap balls is to make your soap as you would normally, then when it's still fairly young and soft (a couple of days or so), just take it and smoosh into balls.

Since the siap is still very young and not done saponifying it can be pretty rough on your hands. If you're going to do this, it might be best to wear gloves.

Alternately, I've seen recipes where people rebatch their soap and shape it into balls. Since this is typically done with fully reacted soap, you don't run the risk of chemical burns.

Thanks so much cactuscat for your advice. I did wonder whether rebatch might work as previously a member had posted some gorgeous photos of their soap balls. I cant remember who it was but the soap balls looked fantastic.

Thank you also for the tip re the gloves and reminding me that the balls would not be cured properly. I probably wouldnt have thought about that as the really popular soap site that I was looking at (http://www.est.com.au) shows the people rolling the soap straight from a bowl without gloves! Perhaps theirs is rebatched???

Again thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
Jo

Thank you all of you for making me feel so much better about the soap balls.

I thought I would have a try with rebatch first and see if I could make the balls and yes I would like to add some extra goodies to it!

I just love the look of the soap balls and so rather than spend $9.00 per ball plus postage (185g ball) I might as well try the rebatch and learn something at the same time!

I will remember the gloves

Thank you again, you are all so helpful and kind to share your knowledge with me.
Jo

Was the soap cured all the way?
Some FOs at too high of a concentration can burn hands - make sure you didn't put in too much and burn peoples bums!

I would suggest next time you make these to get a scale and don't go above the manufacturer's recommendation. :)

Hi

I am finding this thread really interesting for a couple of reasons.

I wonder seashell what the fresh barley grass will be like in a few days/weeks and if that has contributed to the extra moisture in the soap balls. I would l love to know how they are in a week, will you let us know please?

I also wondered and I am hoping someone can answer this for me. If rebatching resulting in lumps through the soap why you cant use a stick blender to smooth them out? I have been reading and reading about rebatching and some people mention it will make the soap float because it incorporates air into the mix. Is that right? Also soem people mention they add sugar or salt to the rebatch when it has melted and this seems to smooth the consistency. Any ideas why? I cant quite work out why this would be and of course I couldnt find the answer anywhere.

Thanks for all the info

Thank you
jo
