Hi all

I've made a few batches of soap since I joined up in my crock pot and I just luuuuuuv it!

I used a recipe from the book called Soap Naturally by Patricia Garzena and Marina Tadiello called three aces which uses lard and would like to make different recipes.

Are there any formulas for turning CP soap making recipes into CPHP friendly recipes? I've noticed that the main difference is that 375grms of water is used in t CPHP recipe compared to 300grms per 1kg of soap.

I'd also like to learn to swirl colours through my soaps. I've read the article on soap swirling that was written in the Saponifier Magazine. It seems a lot easier if using a CP recipe!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Rebecca

Welcome!
Any CP recipe can be used to make CPHP. You can find more recipes on Miller Soap site http://www.millersoap.com/#Soap Contents
I use the same amount of water whether it's CP or CPHP. All soaps still need to cure, whether they are cooked or not. As far as swirling, the more your practice the better your swirls. Most people prefer to swirl at a very thin trace.

Thank you, thank you!

I'll look at the suggested website. I'm pleased to hear that I can use the same recipes for both CP and CPHP. Yay!! Are there any definite no no's when using a crock pot?

As far as swirling goes I'll keep practicing lol. I made a nice batch yesterday and I used Peppermint Eucalyptus essential oil (have been reading with great interest the difference between using natural essential oils compared to fragrant oils and note that it seems most people have an idea or thought which suits them) as its 36.5 deg Celsius here and i'm looking for a way to cooooooool down. Eucalyptus is such a wonderfully cooling oil in the summer. I used spirulina tabs to colour a portion of the soap I had removed at thinish trace and it was going along beautifully with a lovely shade of green until I added the e/os. Turned an absolutely beautiful (NOT) colour of baby poo brown. But nothing is a failure. I have a lovely off white and shades of brown delightfully scented soap.

Mmmmm more practice ...

Rebecca

The one thing I found with a crock pot is that I prefer to use the low setting, so the soap doesn't overheat or overcook. Spirulina has natural chlorophyl which is green and not stable in soap. Natural greens usually turn to some shade of brown in soap. I bet it still will make a nice soap.

What are the most stable colorants to use for coloring soap?

So many questions and possibilities! Lol

Essential oils or fragrant oils, natural colorants or more synthetic forms of coloring???? Making the soap isn't nearly as hard as making decisions on which way to go with scent and colour. Any ideas? Lol

Again, thanks for the wonderful advice.

I'll keep an eye out for oxides and ultramarines

I've just decided I'd like to postpone Christmas for a couple of weeks so I had more time to practice. Lol. I could make soap morning, noon and night.

Thanks again
