hi guys,

i did some reading up on sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, and i think it could be ok to use for extra lather. i purchased it in powder form and was wondering what would be the best way to dissolve it. i've tried hot soap, and alcohol (it just gets really hard).

any suggestions would be awesome. :)

thanks everyone

CP? MP? If it's for CP, you would be better off reformulating your recipe with some castor oil.

I agree with Soapbuddy, Cp IMHO dosen't need artifical lather boosters if you use the correct oils. Mine lathers like crazy. Except the salt soap I tried to make  Which did poorly. ( I bow to Majic Hands on that one)

Mix the SLS with water. Very very gently. It foams on contact with water so the key is to get it dispersed into the soap without starting the foaming. If you are very patient, you can actually mix it directly into the melted soap but it tends to clump.

Which melt and pour base are you using without the amount of lather you want? Are you adding anything to the base or just using it straight?

I started out with MP and I never met one that needed a lather boost.

this chemical i and my whole family 9kid wise- any offspring of me lol) are very allergic to.. thats the whole reason i stray away from chemicals, i even have to buy organic dryer sheets... so you might want to be careful, alot of pople actually ask me if the soaps have any in it (that and sodium lauryl sulfate) before they buy!

i find the mp shea butter bases work best for lather... did you try that?

Hi everyone, and thanks. I’m actually using the BB shea and goat's milk bases. They both lather awesome, but I find when I whip them, they need more lather. I also put one small (pierced) gel capsule of vitamin e per/lb of soap.

I was originally using small amounts of Cocamidoproply Betaine for extra lather, but when I did some reading on SL sulfoACETATE found it was derived from palm and coconut oils, which made me feel a little better.

I'm also testing lather increase with the addition of Foaming Bath Butter, though I'm still not sure how much to use.

Thanks again.

Are you whipping the MP with other oils?

only the small amount of vitamine E i mentioned, and of course FO or EO for scent.

my typical whipped MP recipe:

8 oz shea
8 oz GM
.25 oz FO/EO
1 small (pinched) capsule Vitamine E
color
maybe a pinch of herbal pieces

It could be because you are whipping air into it.

wouldn't the soap lather the same but just get used up quicker beacuse of the air whipped into it?

You would need more soap to get the same amount of lather as opposed to a solid MP bar. If you want that many bubbles, you might be better off making your own foaming bath butter.
