I have made several soaps which the only oil is Olive oil. I have mixed the lye in at room temp, have heated the olive oil to 120 degrees, have re batched a loaf...and when I use it it becomes soft and mushy. What tips are out there that can keep the bar reasonably hard throughout the three weeks it's used in the shower.

Sounds like your olive oil might be adulterated? What does it say on the label or the ingredients?

How long did the soap cure? A lot of soapers cure their 100% olive oil soap for a 6 months or a year.

Also, is the soap sitting in a puddle of water? That will make it mushy. It's helpful for homemade soap in general, and 100% olive in inparticular, to dry out between uses.

I'm also wondering about cure time..needs a longer time for pure olive oil.

My castile soap gets pretty hard within about 3 days. I cure mine for 6-8 months.

It really need 6 months to a year to really cure nicely. I'm just starting to use a couple bars I did in early spring. Getting ready to do a lavender castile batch for the spring. :)

My 100% Castile soap was harder at 3 weeks than my olive oil/coconut oil/shea butter soap was at 7 weeks. And that was with a 10% superfat. I am really clueless as to why this is. I will still be letting the Castile cure for a few months at least, though.
