What exactly does castor oil do for soap? I have added castor oil to all of my batches so far. Today I would like to make soap but I am out of castor oil. Can I make a nice creamy bubbly soap without it?

Castor is added mainly for bubbleage. I used to use it but I don't any more and I have lovely lather with my soaps. You may up your coconut oil a tad bit in compensation.

If you don't have castor, try adding some sugar to your lye water.

I used 1/2 teaspoon ppo. Make sure to add sugar before adding the lye. Sugar will not dissolve in lye water.

Another senior moment!   Can't believe you all already told me about sugar. This time I am putting it in my soaping note book. Remembered all about the salt but forgot all about the sugar answer. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to answer me again. I am going to try a recipe without the castor oil and add the sugar. It will be an interesting experiment. Hope I like it.
