Teach Soap

Someone just asked if he could buy some soaps from me. I've just started doing this, and I look at the beautiful soaps on Etsy and think I'm nowhere close to that. So this was very exciting for me!

Now I have to figure out what my costs are. Since I've been in the learning phase, I haven't been thinking about how much a bar should cost.

Make sure you have all the paperwork in place before you start to sell. I don't know how long you've been making soap, but it's always a good idea to know how the texture, feel, color, scent or essential oil will do over time. There are a lot of people on etsy that make soap to sell, but don't know much about business or the soapmaking process. This business isn't about making soap and selling it the next day.

Thanks for the pointers! I didn't get into making soap to sell it - I got into it because I love soap. I started giving it away because there is only so much soap one person can use and you need to learn what you're doing before you can make the really pretty, fancy patterns.

Ok, that's a kind of scary post. That makes it sound like I shouldn't bother even giving soap away.
