Teach Soap

I've been playing around with recipes, and I've been using one with 30% coconut oil. My husband LOVES it because it lathers so well. I have a hard time telling whether or not a soap is drying to my skin because I have psoriasis so bad. I have been doing 5% excess oils in this recipe. I wonder if I should increase that percentage since I am using such a high amount of coconut oil............

Thoughts?

I also use 30% coconut oil in my basic recipe. I like to superfat at 7%. It seems to be the magic number for my location. I guess it really depends on your area and how much moisture is in the air on a regular basis. But otherwise, play with different superfatting percentages and see which one you like the most.

I prefer 20% or under of coconut oil in my regular recipe with a 7% superfat. My skin find 30% coconut with less then 7% drying. The exception to this is 100% coconut with a 20% superfat.

If we were to do this by percentage and 100% is a 20% superfat then 30% of CO would be 6% superfat. But I am cautious to think that there maybe something else at play here and would aim for that 7%. When winter comes in my part of the country I usually need to up my superfat.

Ah. I did read that coconut oil could be drying at high levels, so that would make sense. Maybe I'll try that in a super small batch, just to see. I don't know much about salt bars, that's something to save for future possibilities I think. Thanks for all advice.
