Are Solid Crisco and Lard pretty much the same in soap making?

They are listed separately on the soap calc and then there are two crisco, the old and the new formula. Lard is typically from pig, and the new crisco has palm oil in it, where the old did not. So they are technically different products. I think they all 3 produce nice, white, solid bars with good lather though.....

I have only made soap one time with shortening from walmart.... and that was listed on soap calc. Now if some shortening contains palm does that mean the entire container needs to be melted and stirred just like palm oil does?

I would imagine not... I know the hydrogenated palm I use (Spectrum shortening) doesn't have to be melted and stirred first.

Lard is animal fat and Crisco (name brand) is a mixture of vegetable oils, no animal fats.
