If I am using 60 ounces of oils how much pigment do I add? My colors seem dull and I want vibrant. Thanks in advance.

Which colors are you using and where did they come from? When I'm making tester batches, which are 2 lbs, I use a 1/4 tsp. of oxide or ultramarine.

I haven't had good luck with your type of pink. Check out the colorants on Brambleberry's site. Sorry for the short post, but my laptop died.

I've never had good luck with ultramarine pink (or purple). For pinks, you may want to use a mica. If you use much more than Irena's recommendation for the oxides, you'll find that when you use it, the water takes on that color, and with enough, so does the lather. With red and green oxides, I even cut back a bit more than the others.

As time has gone on, I've started using less color because early on I was finding the water turning color. And when it's something like red, people think they're bleeding.

ETA: I didn't see Irena's last post while I was making mine. But yeah, not some much pink oxide love from me.

You can use Mica in CP then? I read that Pigment would be better? I'm a newbie so I'm still learning. I purchased some Pigment from Brambleberry and the Ultramarine Purple turned out fine. I did have to use 1/2 tsp for a 5 bar batch.

Oxides tend to create more earthy, muted tones.

Yes, you can use micas in CP soap for coloring; it's mostly what I use. One catch is that micas sometimes morph/change colors in CP soap, so you should check what the final color will be on the seller's site. Some of my very favorite micas (and some of these contain pigments) are the neon colorants from Brambleberry: Electric Bubble Gum, Fired Up Fuchsia, Fizzy Lemonade, Tangerine Wow!

I normally save the oxides for darker colors, though I avoid ultramarine purple. I use a mica for purple also.

Some people use pigments like FD&C colorants or LabColors. I've found that they bleed color into adjoining colors, so they're best for single color soaps.

Everyone needs to try out a few of the different colorants to see what works for them. :D

For bright pink, I prefer Lab Colors.

Thank you for the advice. :D Since I only make 5 to 7 bar batches right now I will see how the oxide pigments work for me. I used ground Cinnimon to color my Hazelnut Coffee soap. Turned out lovely.

Be careful with cinnamon. It can be irritating.

Thank you. I will try micas. This is so tricky.

I found I get a bright pink from the Electric Bubblegum Pigment from Brambleberry. I also want to try the Fired Up Fuschia. I like all the bright colors and it does not take a whole lot of it to get the brightness desired.
