Teach Soap

I made a batch the other night, all seemed to be going well, but after looking at it the next day, there were little drops of what I thought was glycerin on the top....so I let it sit some more to see if they would be pulled back into the soap...

Instead, the drops seemed to have just dried without being reabsorbed, and when I touched the top, it feels like I'm brushing powder off. What the heck? This hasn't happened before....the only different item is that I used Lavender Apple by NG....can fragrance pool up and then flake off like that?

Soap is a form of salt. It's possible some of the moisture came to the surface, then dried off looking like powder. If it doesn't zap, I wouldn't worry about it.

And just so I'm completely clear on the whole zap thing....I don't know if I'm just lucky (???) but I don't think I've ever experienced zap before in the loads of batches I've made. I would REALLY know, there would be like no mistaking zap, correct?

As a kid, I licked Zest...and that's what a lot of what my zap tests remind me of....so that's all right, right? I should say, my bars are probably a lot better to lick than a store bought commercial bar.

Hehehe, I wanted to make sure I knew what zap was like, so I wiped some batter off my finger then poked my tongue! The residue zapped me. I don't find it to be a bad sensation, but you will certainly know when it has happened!

That's really the best way Heather, live and learn! I did the same thing years ago. I was so afraid (I was young too) and then it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. My teachers had done a good job of scaring me where lye was concerned, then they wanted me to purposely put it in my mouth? I thought they were nuts! Lol. Now it is funny and I smile when I remember, but the thought of it did freak me out a bit!
