Try Candlemaking for the First Time by Vanessa-Ann or Beginner's Guide to Candlemaking by David Constable.
What type of wax are you planning on using? Fragrance Oils? Essential Oils? What type of wicks and colors? It's hard to say what to recommend as there are way too many variables. I would try a candle making kit, then take it from there.
