I used bubble bath base 1 cup with 1/4 cup fragrance oil. It is seperating after being stored in bottle. It is also too thin, even after I shake it up. I need something to make it thick, rich & creamy. I did not want to use baking soda or salt, because of the grit factor. Has anyone used cornstarch as a thickner? What do I do about the seperating after sitting a few hours? Should I try heating it before putting in the final bottles? This project has been a failure so far. I want the finished product to be a thick body wash. I am making Christmas gifts & these are not going out. LOL

Is it a base you are using? Where are you getting the base from? They should have instructions on how to use it and thicken it...

I have bought bubble bath base thru wholesalesupplies.com, but it was not any thicker than over the counter drug store, premade liquid soap/bubble bath. So I have tried all 3. This last batch was soft soap clear liquid & a very small amount of fragrance. What do you think about the cornstarch idea/ or adding whipped soap base, heating or using a mixer? My products are trial & error. I just don"t like to waste ingredients.

1/4 cup fragrance oil to 1 cup of base seems excessive! Most fragrances are skin safe up to about 5% of the product but you need to verify the safe usage rates for each fragrance.

Please go by weight and not cups. That is not an accurate measure. For fragrance, try 0.5 oz. per lb. of the body wash. Add too much fragrance and the body wash will become like water.

I decreased the fragrance, added cornstarch, used an electric mixer & heated it on the stove. I am gonna let it set overnight & check on it tomorrow. Thanks, everyone for the tips :)

I heated 30 seconds in the micowave after mixing with electic mixer to dissolve clumps of corn starch. So far, it looks good. Not seperating in bottle & very thick. The thickness was what I was trying to get. The fragrance is ok, I just personally like a strong fragrance. :)

If this is just for you, that's fine. If you are planning on selling this in the future, please follow fragrance safety guidelines as too much fragrance could seriously irritate someone's skin. Heating the body wash with a preservative could negate the preservative, creating a BIG liability issue. Your liability insurance would not cover you for negligence.
