Teach Soap

Hello I am new to the list and have been making cp soap for 10 years as a hobby and still feel like there is so much to learn! Someone has asked me to make some soap with apple cider that they make and while I have made some but have had issues with heating up and seizing can someone tell me should I mix oils and lye solution at lower temp (i have been at 36 cel) and also should I not insulate? I realise its the sugar content in the cider, I have been using full strength cider but last batch I did mix with distilled water am very grateful for any advice

While I have no advice for you on the cider, I did want to welcome you to the board. I hope someone is able to help you with your new recipe. If it works out be sure to post pictures. It sounds VERY cool!

Welcome Moet! Sorry I'm not sure how warm that is but would think cooler is betteer with all the sugar. You could try freezing the cider before adding lye to it. Alternatively, make your lye solution with the minimum amount of distilled water and then add the rest of your liquid as cider at trace. Let us know how it works out for you!

Oops! forgot to mention you could also use an ice bath for lye solution.

The pH of apple cider is around 4.25, which could neutralize some of your lye. I would use just a little for label appeal.
