Welcome Bluemoon! We all started out just like you- no knowing much! I started making soap for the same exact reason - sensitive skin!
I think Forums like this are a great resource for newbs and not so newbs too!

Thank you for the welcome sgsoap. I think I should perhaps explain that I believe that the term 'self-sufficiency' has a slightly different meaning here in England to in the US. Here it simply means growing most of your own fruit and veg, maybe keeping a few hens or a goat or whatever, and often making more of your own products like soaps and clothing. In other words trying to live in a simple way largely by your own efforts. I tell you this because I recently looked at a US site on self-sufficiency and it was a bit scary! :lol:

I wouldn't want you all to get the wrong impression!
