Teach Soap

I've read several books and watched soap queen tv and others but still have a couple questions about what equipment to use. I'm just getting started and have some items around the house that I can dedicate just to my soap making, but not sure if they are alright to use.

Is it ok to use the Pyrex Measuring Bowls to mix the Lye? Some say yes, some say no. What do you use?

What do you use to mix your ingredients in a big pot, glass bowl with spout?

Do you use all stainless steel spoons for mixing?

Is there a specific brand name of spoons, spatula's that you use?

Without spending a huge amount of money, what brand name of stick blender would you recommend?

Never use pyrex to measure your lye or raw soap in. Over time, the lye creates microscopic cracks and your pyrex with the lye or raw soap could shatter.
Rastaurant supply places like Smart & Final carry heavy duty, large plastic containers which can be used for lye or to mix your soap in. I use a stick blender to mix, plastic spoons with long handles and silicone spatulas. You can use stainless steel, just make sure that it's true stainless steel. I don't use any specific brands, as some of the utensils can be found at the Dollar store.
The stick blender I have, which is a Braun, with a detachable stainless steel shaft is not made any more, so I'll leave this question for someone else to answer.

You can usually pick up a stick blender at a local Goodwill for super cheap!

heavy-duty plastic paint buckets from the home improvement stores are great for mixing lye and for mixing your soap batter. I buy lots of silicone mixing spoons, spatulas and plastic measuring cups from the Dollar store & Walmart. I have a Cuisinart Smart Stick blender I bought from amazon.com and it works great.
