Someone gave me some soap and says she uses Rit Dye for color and has for years. Heard of this?

That sounds like a terrible idea.

Please don't use Rit for soap. It's not safe.

Hi Malia!

I was going through some of my soap books recently and saw that in a book by Norma Cooney (my favorite soapmaking book, actually!) that she uses Rit dye. I was really surprised when I saw that and would never do it myself, but I have faith that she wouldn't have put that in there unless she knew it worked.

But I haven't tried it myself. There are too many legitamate soap colorants out there to have to resort to using Rit!
