I'm looking for guidance on how far ahead I can scent my soaps & lotions and ensure that the scent lasts a reasonable amount of time. Are some scents (which ones?) longer lasting than others?

I don't know of any hard and fast rule that would tell you this. Some fragrances tend to fade, some stick.

I know that. The real Q is, I guess, which ones tend to stay the longest and which ones fade the quickest? I've been told that citrus-type scents vanish the soonest but I don't have any personal knowledge of this.

The top notes tend to fade like citrus oils. Base notes like Vetiver or Patchouli stick around. Since fragrance oils have proprietary ingredients, it's hard to say.
The best way is to ask other soapers that have used a particular fragrance.
