Hello all you Soapers out there, I am new (very very new) to this wonderful world and I am just curious - what should I start with along the lines of fragrance and colors? I prefer the pastel look of the CP soaps and I LOVE the embedded looks also. I think I have seen every video that Ann-Marie has made...along with hours and hours of You Tube tutorials. But, no one really gives a "set-up" list. I am highly creative, I own my own business and I am looking to expand my creative needs. What do you, the professionals, think?

I appreciate all information!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Teri Brockmire

Welcome!
I would start with a mica sampler pack: http://www.brambleberry.com/Sample-Packs-C41.aspx
Fragrance is very personal. I would get a 1 oz. size and see what you like or get their fragrance sampler pack: http://www.brambleberry.com/Best-of-BB- ... P3340.aspx

Hi,

Lab colors bleed - not necessarily a bad thing (it's handy to have blue lab color though if you're looking to make a clear soap as in not colored at all, cuz oddly just a very small amount of the blue will change the clear M n P (not the honey or hemp) into a more whitish or clearish looking bar - like for an imbed - whereas clear M n P actually looks somewhat yellowish without it). At Brambleberry there is a category under colors called non-bleeding colors - pick a color or 2 or 3 that you like. Be sure that you look at the picture of what the M n P and CP soaps turn out as (there is usually a picture of each type of soap) with that color. Because there are purple-looking colors that leave your soap pink and celini red for instance leaves your soap bright orange. So buyer beware. Look closely at the photos and if there isn't a photo then read the reviews. (Keep in mind too that micas will go opaque in white M n P base, while they will be shiny in clear. And if you use honey or hemp beware that yellow and green mix with colors that are opposite on the color chart to make brown. Like if I remember correctly a yellow and a purple make brown - yeah, while a yellow and a pink will make orange and an orange and a green - hemp - will make brown or again purple or even red too I think while with a blue it will make a teal or with yellow a greenish yellow. See? The colors of the honey and hemp are pretty light so that if you put in enough color it will over-power it and I think it should turn out the color you want but a light coloring with those will change it. You can add titanium dioxide to counter this but then you will have an opaque soap - not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind.)

I always read the reviews anyway before buying anything. Not only do you find out what will happen using such and such product, there are often great tips, ideas and do's and dont's in the reviews!! Like for colorants in particular people will often comment on just how much was required to make the color they wanted. Or for fragrance if it discolors or I guess with M n P you don't need to worry about acceleration. The pictures for the fragrances as well will show you what each fragrance will do color-wise to the soap. Many color the soaps yellow or tan or even orange or greenish. Just really pay attention. Many people have bought the celini red in particular which is a beautiful dark red and surprise, surprise the soap turns out almost day-glow orange!! (But for lip or nail colors it will stay red! I love this feature (?) not quite the word I'm looking for here but you get my drift I imagine.)

Good Luck,

Rowan
