Help from the experts! I have time constraints when making soap so I've always used MP. Then, I discovered Rebatch soaping and thought I'd try that for a more "rustic" looking soap with little curing time. Well, the recipe from BB said to unmold after 2-4 days which I did on the 4th day. The soap was beautiful but very soft. I've waited now 8 days and the middle is still gooey. I must say that I followed the recipe to a "T" using less water than it called for after the warnings about how long it would take to get hard if one uses too much liquid. Also, there is NO lathering at all. This was the Soothing Oatmeal Bath Bar.

My question is this: can I rebatch this rebatch with some MP (low sweat) to make more lather and would it make it harden sooner?

Thank you so much...I learn so much form this forum!

You're going to have a hard time mixing MP with the rebatch as it's a different medium. I don't like to rebatch, but when I do, I add almost no water. If your batch is that soft, you need to give it more time to harden. Adding MP will not make the soap harder.

It could take weeks to harden. Your lather may improve once it's a harder bar of soap.

Thank you, good clean fun....BTW, do you know if any of the other rebatch bases are full of lather? I'll check BB's website...

Sorry, I don't typically rebatch and have never used the rebatch bases. I have rebatched my own cp/hp soap in the past because it didn't come out as I wanted it to. I had a batch that I added too much liquid to, and it took 2 months to harden. When I tried it while still soft, the lather was thin and rather disappointing. Now 3 months later the lather is better.

i've been playing with BB's luxury rebatch. i love it.

i use the following soap/ liquid / oil ratio:

3 lb rebatch
4 oz water
2 tbsp oil

this will take about 3 weeks to fully harden: 1 week in the mold, 1 week as a full loaf, 1 week cut into slices. ** make sure your soap is in a well ventilated area. cover it with paper towels to keep dust off.

when it's fully hardened i get dense, creamy bubbles when using an agitator like a bath puff, and large creamy bubbles when i just agitate it with my hands.

the bar will last 3 - 4 weeks in the shower if you let it fully dry in between showers.

i hope this helps.

Thank you so much, dragon lady! I need all the advice I can get :-). I travel so frequently that this will be quite a challenge in the drying arena. Rats. I really wanted to soap making it rustic looking and misunderstood the time frame after the fact. I'll have to think about this one! Thanks again!

BB's rebatch base is usually very fresh and doesn't need much (if any) water added. :D

you're right it doesn't. but for the look i want to achieve, i need the soap to be a bit less like mashed potatoes.
