Hi, red499! Welcome to the forum!

Have you looked at ? They have some basic techniques and recipes listed. I guess it depends also on what exactly you're looking for? If you could describe what it is exactly you would like to do, then we could help you better.

As for melting M&P base, I prefer to use the microwave rather than a double boiler. I just cover my Pyrex container with plastic wrap and zap my base in 30 second increments depending on how much base I'm melting. The double boiler is nice though if you're doing detailed color pours or layering, in order to keep your base fluid and the hot water in the bottom doubles for cleaning my dropper or syringe of excess soap base for the next color.
