I have purchased FD&C colorants for my bath bombs. Problem is... now I tried to dilute the colorant in some witch hazel to get it to a liquid, instead of the powder. And it was going great, until I got to the Red 33, and the Green 5. They started to foam up and became really thick. The other FD&C colorants are perfectly in a liquid state. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Is the colorant old? It wasn't long that I have purchased them, maybe 3 months now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Instead of having it a powder, I wanted to make it a liquid, and didnt want to use water. and since i already use witch hazel in my product for squirting the mixture, I decide to mix it with a little witch hazel to make it a liquid and add it drop by drop which seems easier.

Some colorants are not suitable in witch hazel as it contains alcohol. I would try diluting them in plain glycerin instead.

powder works best. the color comes out when you use the witch hazel to wet the misture for packing.
