BTMS vs. BTMS-50??

I've been making my own hair conditioner for a year now but I still cannot figure out the difference between BTMS and BTMS-50. I tried reading all sorts of formulation and the explanation but all they say is that BTMS-50 has the ability for you to adjust the quat : fatty alcohol ratio for different conditioning needs. Can someone explain this better? I tried both BTMS and BTMS-50, I don't get it, feel frustrated...

BTMS 50 is Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol & Butylene Glycol
BTMS is Behentrimonium Methosulfate & Cetearyl Alcohol. BTMS has a less greasy feel.

I thought BTMS-50 is the one less greasy since it's less fatty alcohol and is meant for formulating?

BTMS has a softer/drier feel on my hair and it leaves my hair with more body. Have you used both of them and subbed one for the other in your formula?
