Teach Soap

I have made 2 batches of lotion so far. Ran out of my initial little stash of almond oil. So here's the easiest question SoapBuddy will answer all day:

Like soapmaking, can one use oils purchased at the grocery store for lotion? Would avocado oil from Safeway be any different than avocado oil from Bramble Berry? Other than one being "food grade" and the other isn't?

Don't see why I can't use them but just checking with the experts.

As long as they are pure oils, I don't think there is any real difference besides price. The ones at the grocery are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more expensive. I've used sweet almond oil from the grocery store in a pinch, but ended up paying roughly twice the price for about half the amount as I could buy from Bramble Berry.

You can check a couple other places and see if there are better prices. Sometimes World Market/Cost Plus has avocado oil a little cheaper than the grocery store. And sometimes ethnic stores have better prices. None of them beat Bramble Berry's price though.

Good to know, thanks for the input on cost as I was wondering about that. Been a while since I sat down and crunched the numbers regarding oil prices. Olive oil seems to be the only oil one can buy in the stores at a reasonable price. Coconut oil has started to show up at Costco but even then its still 2x the cost of Bramble Berry.

Huh, go figure - so puzzling as to why such a range in the price.

For lotions and creams, you can use oils from your local grocery store or soapmaking oils you buy online.
BrambleBerry buys large amounts and passes the discount on to us.
