Teach Soap

Hi,

I have a shampoo bar recipe that seems to be OK for a body soap as well. It is from The Soap Queen. What makes a bar suitable for hair and is there a recipe that is suitable for both hair and body ? If you have a recipe like this can you share ?

I can't use handmade soap as a shampoo bar at all. It makes my hair feel rough and dry like straw, even with a vinegar rinse.

The shampoo bar I made from The Soap Queen was the Tea Tree Shampoo bar and if you look at the ingredients it reminds me of many body bar recipes except the shampoo seems to have a higher Castor oil percent for lather I assume

It is : 10 oz Coconut oil, 10 oz Palm oil, 8 oz Castor oil and 8 oz Olive oil. Tea Tree essential oil is added at trace. It is wonderful for my hair and I wonder if I can use it as a body bar as well (if I leave out the tea tree oil as I am not fond of it's scent)

I don't see why not. It has similar/same ingredients as a handmade bath/body soap.

Shy about my soap as I am new to this and tried the spoon technique. It was a technique where you swirl the spoon and I got carried away swirling. It ended up blending too much. I also forgot to tap the pan between layers so it has bubbles. And, if that isn't bad enough I didn't have alcohol to spray the top so it has ash. OK for me but not pretty ( I guess we all learn with experience.

If you are wanting to sue the same product for your hair and body - whether home or commercially produced, consider this: Your hair likes things to be more acidic, and your skin wants them more alkaline. Any "combo" product is going to favor one or the other...or be in the middle and then no one is happy.

I always liken it to this: I want chocolate, you want vanilla, so we compromise and get strawberry. Great. Now neither one of us got what we wanted.
