I got my gallon of glycerin in the mail today ( YAY!!!!! ) and I want to make a batch of LS with it. How do I go about doing this? Do I replace my water with the glycerin and mix my lye into it or do you replace the water with the glycerin in the dilution phase?

Just finished making a batch with Glycerin!! Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VUGV_H7 ... ature=plcp

Basically replace the water to help KOH with, but you need to heat it first.

I've only made the one batch myself and mine all dissolved. But it also cools really, really, quickly.

All the lye should dissolve in the glycerin. The glycerin needs to be heated up. Be aware that this is not something a beginner should try.

Mine bubbled up. I just lifted the pot off the stove and it calmed down almost straight away.

I'm curious if it would work with half water... if it did, then it might work with half milk? Or would the milk caramelise due to the heat and lye? Hrm...

I really liked how the glycerin soap turned out, but still want to find a way to make it with goat's milk.

Soapbuddy - would I be able to use GM powder and water to dilute it as opposed to fresh goat's milk? Or does the lack of saponification still come into play with problems?

Coolah,
The milk would caramelize due to the natural sugars. If you try GM powder and water, I would get it tested, since the milk does not saponify.

Not worried about clarity - just the goat's milk goodness. :D

If I was to half/half it with Glycerin, would it still be the same as half/half water? Or do you need more glycerin than water to dissolve the lye.

Sqquuueeeeeeee!! I am practically giddy right now!! After FIVE days of failure, after failure (approximately 7 batches), I have my first successful (imo) liquid soap! Made with... yup - the 'Glycerin method'! 8)

Course, I *now* realise that my last three batches weren't actual failures, but that recipe's high in coconut oil don't thicken with salt. But THIS batch is what I consider my first success. It's clear. It's the right colour. It's super perfectly thick!! Oh I love it so much I could scream!
