Hello,

I make cp soaps (also selling them) and now I am thinking of making some bath goodies too, for my family and friends first, of course.
I have tried to make some bath truffles (using baking soda, citric acid, pretty high quantity of oils/butters and a little FO/EO and colours) which turned out lovely and also very confortable for my skin. They fizzed nicely when melting.
Then I made some bath bombs (some stayed uncracked and nice, some colapsed,...) . I know ther will be always love-hate relationship between proces of making them and me, but would like to give them a chance. My BBs do fizz but do not foam, since I used prety much the same ingredients in different proportions as in truffles, except that I add some epsom salt and corn starch. I am trying to do my products as natural as possible.
And here is my problem. Recently I started to think about foaming: isn't all about bath bombs in foaming (and smelling good)?
I can not decide weather to stay at "natural" with all my products or shall I leave truffles as they are and make BB with SLSA and that way also make these two products more distinctable when describing their characteristics. I mean a kind of emphasise oily properties of truffles and fun-foaming of BBs.
What do you think about the idea? I guess the way I will start doing it I will also sell them later so is a long term decision and I need your help.
What are your experiences about adding sufractants in your bath products? Do you use any other type except SLS and SLSA? Which is the "kindest" to the skin? Is it in liquid or powdery form?
Since both products are small and meant for one use I do not think of adding some preservatives.
What would be the actual result if I change cornstarch for caolin clay? Do they have the same rule in BBs - like filling agents or is there something more about them?
Waiting gratefully for your answers

I don't use SLS. I find it too harsh. SLsA is a milder surfactant powder.
Corn starch is harder to dissolve in water then clay.
The fun is in the experimenting. Make a small batch and see how you like it.
Bath bombs or fizzies don't need a preservative.

Thank you for your reply Irena,
the thing is I do not have such sensitive skin to feel any problems due to sls or any other
kind of surfactant so I asked for opinion about it.
I read about SLSA being natural and bio decomposable. Is it true? Can I still put "natural" on label
using SLSA in products?
Also intrested in knowing if any of you uses TARTARIC ACID in bath products. What are your experiences
with this ingredient? Are there any limitations on % in bath products for tartaric acid?

Tartaric acid is a highly toxic substance. That's not something that you would use in bath bombs.
Did you mean citric acid?

SLsA is made in a lab. To me, that's not natural.

Ah, cream of tartar. That's different. Cream of Tartar is sometimes used to make the fizzing action last longer.
