Instead of using meringue can I use egg whites since it's essentially just powdered egg whites?

I have used powdered egg whites, it turned out the same?

Does anybody use bicarb, citric acid, cocoa butter etc instead of eggwhites and sugar?
Or is it too expensive? too oily? doesn't pipe as well?
Doesn't stick? (I find it hard to get the egg whites to stick?)
