Trying to decide on packaging - as always, the evil "cost, labor, looks" 3 headed beast has reared its ugly head.
Each nasty head has it's own idea for what should be:

Cost - tiny plastic bags with a twist tie. Ultra cheap. about 3-5 cents each
Labor - wants an aluminum tin - pop'em in and go, about 80 cents each
Looks - want a pretty low profile jar, beautiful, but around $1.25 -$1.50 each

I have done a number of searches on shampoo bar packaging, but all I see is either paper wrapped or a tin like Lush. I'd like to keep the cost down, esp for customers who have never tried one before. An expensive container might make them pass it by.

I am considering the plastic bag idea, but offering the upgraded container separately, marketed as a travel or gift item.

Whatcha think? TIA

Anakiya

What about wrapping them in paper? You could dress that up many different ways.

I thought about that - it would work for the shampoo bard, but the conditioner bars would bake the paper greasy.
And also - paper fails the "labor" test of the 3 headed monster :)

I've bought them packaged in those glassine bags. With a nice label on them, they look really nice.

Thanks for the time you took to share your experience.

But just for the record:
1. Don't assume I am new to selling, just because I have a new product that I am wondering about packaging.
2. Since the time of this post, I have been selling the shampoo and conditioner bars in little plastic bags with a folded card hang tag.
Very simple and inexpensive. Not fancy at all.
3. They sell like mad...can't keep them in stock.
4. Your future posts would be easier to read without all the CAPS. In case you are unaware, using caps online is the equivalent of shouting. And it's hard and annoying to read.

Soapy Sugar. I enjoyed the story. I do agree that customer service is what will keep clients coming back. I buy from two companies on the net... soap and a scrapbooking co. - both get me to come back because of their customer service (although they both have great products!). Of course the soap co is Brambleberry!
We also have a great caramel co at our farmers market. They pkg nicely and I have gifted their candy (don't eat it myself anymore - trying to be healthy). And when I requested some made without nuts for my grand-dtr they were more than happy to help me out. That is service!

Your story was a great reminder of what we all could do.

Anakiya.... I am glad you found what works for you. I have never made a shampoo bar and was concerned that the inside of a bag would become "marked". This is what has happened when I tried to pkg my CP soaps this way... even if I punch air holes in it. I also like the idea of offering both.... for someone who wants to gift etc.
