Have any of you used the lip balm base? I don't know if I should use the base or try making it from scratch? Thanks!

I made lip balm the first time a few months ago and it was surprisingly easy. The hardest part was sterilizing everything. The lip balm is SO nice though. I don't have to continue using it over and over like chapstick. Just once and my lips are not dry anymore. I had no idea they sold base though.

Try 1/3 oils, 1/3 wax, 1/3 butters as a start, then tweak it from there.

Shea butter is fine. For the flavor oil you need to follow the vendor's recommended %.

I thought Id just use edible EOs since I've got some for soapmaking. Lavender, peppermint , or orange or better yet some combination. at what rate to I use them in lip balm?

Be careful with EO's. Make sure they are GRAS (generally recognized as safe). Lavender doesn't taste very good and orange can be a sun sensitizer.

thank you for pointing that out. the reason I thought of those was beacuse a company named Badger makes lip balm in lavender /orange and I really like it . thought I might try to reproduce it at home. What EOs would you use?or do you recomend a lip balm flavor from BB?

I would go with a lip balm flavor from BB.

Yes, I've used that one. I like it a lot - very sophisticated. It needs a light hand - like a lot of flavor oils, if you overdo it it will taste bitter.
