How's that for an off-the-wall topic?

Here's the situation: I live in Colorado. I have a mastiff that is a show dog.

All the AKC-recognized breeds have what is called a National Specialty show, a dog show with only one breed. This year, the National Specialty for the mastiff is in Denver.

I belong to a mastiff group that is kind of overseeing all the preparations for this event, which will be in May. One of our members thought it would be a nifty idea to have a door prize/raffle kind of thing. And we are going to do a Bar Basket, containing things like Colorado brewed beers, beer steins, towels, etc. So I thought, soap made with beer will be my contribution.

I have in my freezer, all ready for soapmaking, an ale that is actually brewed right here in the town where I live. But I'm not really sure how to scent it.

Here's what I'm thinking so far: a bit of spruce, for that mountain feeling. A bit of lemon, for sunshine, and a bit of spearmint for fresh air. And a teeny bit of cedarwood. I know I have to be careful of the cedarwood, because I don't want it to over power everything else. I don't want to end up with other EOs and CEDARWOOD!, you know?

What do you all think about that idea? Totally off base? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Anita

I'm chuckling over this post; I just came from a show today and was talking to my friend about the Denver Mastiff Specialty. :) I've never soaped with beer so I can't really contribute to that end of the post. But I think its a great idea, I occasionally do a California Fruit and Nut soap. ;) (avocado, almond, apricot and olive, all locally sourced.)

Belinda, do you scent your fruit and nut soap?

Anita

P.S. Are you going to be at the Specialty?

Yay for dog people!!

I love theme-based soaps like you're doing and your fragrance combination sounds awesome! You could also consider pine, fir, or sage EOs. I'm assuming you're going for an all-essential oil scent? Maybe you could put Aloe Vera liquid in it, for a neat western-cacti-themed touch. Since Colorado's state flower is Rocky Mountain Columbine, you could even put dried Columbine in your soap (I'm assuming that could be added to soap). I'm just throwing that out there, your theme is so neat! Love the beer idea!!

Rosie you are such a good hearted young woman. Teenagers get too much bad press. You are definitely one of the good ones.
