What's the difference between the Quaker Oats kind and colloidal? And is it safe to use the grocery store kind ground up for exfoliating in M&P?

*Feel dumb for asking*

Thanks in advance!!!

Colloidal oatmeal is very different. The oatmeal is boiled, then the mucilage is extracted. The mucilage is then dried. That's why if you use it in a bath it stays clear.
IMO, I would not use the oats from the grocery store in MP, due to possible spoilage when it gets wet, but I have seen others use it.

I have used oatmeal to sprinkle on top of my loaf, and I've used ground oats as an exfoliator in my soap without problems. My soap bars tend to stay in my shower for a long time because I have so many in there and I usually use a different one each day. I actually have an oatmeal bar that's been in there almost 2 months that I only use on my face.

I use colloidal oatmeal in most of my CP/HP batches, and sprinkle rolled oats on the top of my oatmeal beer soap, but ONLY on the top. I know too much microbiology to use them IN the soap

Now you have me worried! I love my oatmeal scrub bars, other exfoliants are too harsh/scratchy for me. If you don't gel the soap will a preservative work?

Oops. I ground up and dumped a hefty amount of Quaker oats into my CP soap to try out. Now I'm feeling a bit silly for not considering the oatmeal could spoil once it's gotten wet. Should I just toss it all out?

I use ground oatmeal all the time and its crates a soft soothing bar of soap in fact its my favourite . I use sodium lactate and that I heard is a also good as preservative as well as a hardener .

I welcome any suggestions to the contrary

I use rolled oats and grind them in my coffee grinder and have had nothing go mouldy ever! I've got twelve dozen honey & oatmeal curing on my racks now!
