Do any of you keep insurance? I bought insurance last year and the renewal is coming up. I sell on such a small level, that I'm wondering if I should renew or not. I just sell out of my house. I havnt done any vendor events. I am on etsy, but havnt had any sales yet. I actually just use it as advertising to tell my customers to go there to see what I have available. Thoughts?

Anytime you're selling, you need insurance. For up to $5,000 in sales, some people use RLI.

I consider my soap sales to be minimal, my business is an aside because I make my main income from a different job, but I do keep insurance. My thought is that if I am selling something that I am 100% responsible for making, I need to be sure that I am protecting myself and my family should anything happen. While I think it is probably rare to be sued if your soap causes a rash or your bath product causes someone to slip in a tub, you can never be too careful in our litigious society. For me it is peace of mind. Also, if you are considering doing any vendor fairs in the future, some of them are now asking for a certificate of liability insurance.
