has anyone tried the microbial testing kits made for home use?

I am testing my homemade face mask with a preservative tat i have used and after the third day I see mold growth on the testing strip. But the actual product itself is MOLD FREE. (looks like the first time i made it).

How accurate are these testing stips?

Microbial growth is in your product too, you just can't see it at this point. The testing kit has a medium that accelerates growth like sugar or agar. So what you see on the test is in your product. Please throw the product away. It's contaminated.

I definitely will throw it away. Do you think I should increase the preservative? I am trying out the Leucidal Liquid preservative in 2%.
Or does it have something to do with the utensils and bowls not being sterile before?

Just an FYI i do not sell, I am just having fun creating and testing products for my own enjoyment at home.

I've tried Leucidal when it first became available. it failed testing too. Using more then what the manufacturer recommends can make the product irritating.

I use Liquid Germall Plus and Phenonip. After much research, I'm not concerned about parabens.
