Teach Soap

I would appreciate that scarf Genny! Made out of alpaca, with a hood, hand crocheted? I'm sure it was to die for. And as someone who loves to knit and crochet I know the labor of love (and money) it can demand.

I knit too and I would take back anything I gave that got an "I guess" after it! How utterly rude and insensitive! I have had it happen for sure, but I have learned to say things like, "well, it took me a lot of time, money and talent to make that, so, since you don't seem too thrilled with it, I will be glad to take it off your hands and give it to someone who it will be more suited for. After all, you shouldn't be saddled with something that you don't particularly care for!" Sooooo, if you need someone to give your alpaca hooded scarf to, I'm available and I would LOVE it!

I firmly believe that people shouldn't lie if they don't care for something, but there is no reason to be rude about it either. I'd rather have my daughter in laws say something like "wow, this is quite lovely, but it just isn't me" (and they have) than allow me to think they love something and I keep giving that particular type of thing for years only to find they hated it all along!

I want to say thank you to everyone who has replied. You have given me a new perspective. I am going to give the baskets and depending on the responses I get I will decide who is soap worthy in the future. This should not have been a surprise to me as I also make quilts and have given many to friends and family. Fabric now costs me $10.00 to $12.00 a yard and takes approximately 10 to 12 yards to make the quilt top. Then there is backing and batting. It can take me 6 months to a year to make the quilt depending on how intricate the work is. I have been thanked for the "blanket" and someone thought I used cast offs and scraps to make the quilt. After designing a quilt for my sister that reflected her love of all things snow and took over a year to make, When I visited her it was next to her bird cage with bird seed and who knows what else all over it. If someone has not knitted, quilted or made soap they really can not appreciate the work and time and expense that went into the gift. I will give my soaps with love in my heart and hope they are enjoyed.
