Hi All!
I recently purchased a domain name for my business and want to build a website to sell my products on. However, I'm a little overwhelmed with the process. I'm hoping that those of you who have built their own sites can offer suggestions. What is the difference between a site host and a site builder? Recomendations for either? Do you have to pay seperately to have a shopping cart on the site, how about to take credit card payments?
I'm also considering an etsy site. Is it worthwhile after all of the fees? For those of you who have a personal site and an etsy site would you recomend one over the other, or having both?
I really appreciate any info! Thanks in advance!
Lisa
Lisa,
I will do my best to explain these to you without getting too technical on you. LOL I have a habit of using to much of the Web design lingo. (i'm a Wed Designer).
Site host is the place where you store your site so that it can be viewed by others. Website builder is the program you use to build your site.
As for shopping carts I recommend Mals-E
http://www.mals-e.com/ It's free and very user friendly If you don't know much about Web design and html. You can integrate PayPal to it as well as other payment methods for a small fee.
I don't know who you got your domain with, but they should offer you hosting services and a free website builder. If they don't I would use 1 and 1
http://www.1and1.com. I use then both for my personal Websites and for my clients. They have some great deals and customer service is also great. Right now they have hosting for $3.99 a month and it includes 1 free domain (so you could transfer your domain to them and not pay extra for it). 1 and 1 is a direct competitor of Go daddy. I have used them both and I find 1 and 1 to be better and more affordable in my opinion.
If you need any help Let me know I will be happy to do so. You can send me a private message or post your questions here.
Good Luck!!!
