Is it possible to make a soap using only lard?

Sure! It makes, I am told, a very hard, white bar. All soaps will get you clean, and this one is no different -- you just have to lather it over the skin for at least 30 seconds instead of a quick on-and-off that you might be able to use with a soap made from oils that are more "cleansing" (immediate effect).

The only thing is, and this might be okay for you, you'll smell a bit like bacon. Might want to perfume it up quite a bit.

Tanks for a very quick answer, smelling like bacon, well I don´t know if I don´t prefer roses or lavender. I will give it a try, and add some FO´s.

Have fun experimenting!

Just know that if your ancestors are European, they probably washed with lard soap most of the time, so it can't be that bad, right? ;)

I think my husband would prefer if I smelled like bacon LOL  He's not a fan of my "girlie flower soaps".

Heh. I'm the one who doesn't like girlie scents. Ipstenu doesn't mind them, but I really detest florals for the most part. But I don't want to smell of bacon, either.

I do an unscented 100% lard with 8% superfat and it works just fine ...and it DOES NOT smell like bacon! It smells like soap.
It makes a super hard, very white bar so you need to cut it as soon as you can. 8)

As someone who is extremely nauseated at the smell of bacon and who has a very sensitive nose: It does smell of bacon. To some people the smell may be faint or indiscernible, but to me it's identifiable and gross.

I tried lard at 30% once. Never again. The soap smelt porky. The lard was from the local butcher (a chain) and was a tan colour. The raw lard smelt very strong.

My 100% lard soap didn't smell like bacon either, just soap. I used "fluffo" brand 100% pig tallow lard.

My Lard soap never has a porky smell either. I don't do 100 percent but the main oil is lard when I make it. I made Lard goatsmilk and it smells really good with the FO i used. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but my Goatsmilk soap seem to hold Fragrance really good and I was wondering if it is the Goatsmilk. Saying this because I made soap using the same FO ,one with all goatsmilk and one that had not goatsmilk. The FO has a stronger smell in the goatsmilk

Julie I agree and have noticed the same thing with goat milk. It is almost like clay binding the FO.

I have my new order from soaper's choice of fifty lb. each tallow and lard. I feel it makes the best hardest soap. Just my opinion. Haven't had any off smells from either. But I am going to use milk or maybe some half and half in my next soap. Thanks for the heads up on the fragrance holding better with the goatsmilk. Maybe the half and half will work the same.
