What type of colorants do you have available to work with? I was not successful with the Ultramarine Violet from BB, but have been able to make my own (bowing to Hestey here) using a mixture of Ultramarine Blue and either Fired Up Fuchsia or Electric Bubblegum (all from BB). I also have used red oxide instead of the pinks.
If you can share what colors you have available, I'm sure you'll receive some suggestions!

I find mixing a red/pink and a blue gives a nicer result that any of the pre-mixed purples. For some reason they just don't tend to turn out purple!

I think that colorant is for M&P, according to their website: Color may mutate in cp soap.

Oh! If you have the powder it says: Color may mutate in cp soap. The liquid one is CP safe.

I've made a nice purple using a small amount of ultramarine pink added to ultramarine blue, but it's not a deep color. If I add titanium dioxide it makes a great lavender color.

I use FD&C Blue #1 to create purple. Go take a look at Lab Colors on BrambleBerry's web site.

I just failed at a purple, too! I wanted to try my first "in the pot" swirl with a purple and green. I never know what quantities to use - is there a formula somewhere for that? I had Chrome Green and Ultramarine Violet. I mixed the green with one ounce of coconut oil and the purple with one ounce water. I think I did not have enough of either color - maybe a scant 1/4 tsp of each. I divided my soap batter in half - the batter was as already an almost green color so my green turned out okay but the purple was completely lost! In desperation I added another 1/8 tsp to a splash of water and dumped it in the batter which was thickening rapidly! Never did see any hint of purple. I will have 12 bars of ugly beautiful smelling soap! I think that must be common to us all, right? As we learn how to get the techniques mastered! Can someone share what you've learned about colorant quantities? I know there have been posts regarding this but my search came up empty.
Thanks!
Sherri

I usually mix about 1/4 tsp (cuz that's the stainless steel scoop I have) colorant with about twice or three times as much oil or glycerin, if I am just using it to color small portions of my soap for swirls or whatever. Sometimes you just gotta play it by ear, without going overboard which could give you colored bubbles or washclothes.

I've not used BB's violet powder, but I have used WSP's mixed with ultramarine blue and it makes a nice purple probably similar to this, just a tad tad dusky. I think the pink and blue mix gives a bolder, brighter purple.

Here is a nifty post on Lovin Soap blog from July 23rd on mixing primary oxide and ultramarine colors. Was very interesting!
