SO I have been using cedar soap dishes for my soaps - i love them but the tannins come up after a while and discolor my soap. I have asked the person who makes these for me to seal them with something natural...he has tried beeswax and mineral oil and also tung oil. I am still having the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions? I love using these as gift sets but don't want people to think something is wrong with the soap if they see the discoloration after use....

You used to be able to get a "natural" varathane made with a chitinous compound from beetle carapace. Its usually called "food grade". Not sure if it is still around though.
