I made 2 batches yesterday and cut them both this afternoon (24 hours later). I have problems with each one
1. Goats Milk Soap. It cut well, a bit on the soft side, but not too much. However, the cut surfaces seem overly smooth and slightly oily. It also has a faint "off" smell to it. I used evaporated goats milk (in a can) and diluted it with water to get the full amount of water called for in the recipe. I scented it with Lavender EO. (This was my first time doing a goats milk soap, so don't have anything to compare it to.)
2. Regular CP. This one hardened up beautifully and looks gorgeous, but is crumbly on the bottom, about 1/2 inch. I used the exact same recipe I had previously used with a batch that came out nice (that batch was not crumbly at all). Regular conditions (temps about 105-110 F, insulated, gelled). I used the Summer Fling FO from BB. Same oils as I have been using. I have an accurate scale and am fairly certain my measurements were accurate.
Any suggestions about the causes of these problems? Also, is there a chance that these issues will resolve themselves over time, or is it a case of "what you see is what you get?".
