How do you know if your Palm Oil went bad?

I bought a 35LB drum of palm oil last December. I've used about 75% of it, and as I was scooping it out tonight I noticed that some of it is white and crumbly. The soap I made last night had a few brown discoloration spots, and I'm wondering if my Palm oil is bad.

Have you guys had this happen, and how long is oil supposed to last?

I don't think it's going bad. I think it's the stearic that has settled into the bottom of your drum. Be aware that extra stearic in your recipe can seriously accelerate trace.

question for soap buddy-

in order to redistribute the streaic in my palm oil can i heat everything that I have to mix everything up again, and let it re harden?

Palm is a PAIN in large quantities unless you buy the no stir kind. When you get it you need to heat and stir well the entire batch so that the stearic is evenly distributed throughout then divide it into smaller more manageable containers. By putting it in small containers you can reheat and mix it before use better. I have not had a problem doing this.
If I was you I would fear getting more stearic heavy bars out of that tub. To fix it I would melt and stir well then mix it into a new bucket of palm, melt and stir the whole lot and divide it up. Alternately I would add small portions to other batches of Palm.
That's just me though. I had a bad batch once so am paranoid ever since.
